PANEL: Preparing for the First Year as Faculty

March 31, 2022 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Many graduate students and postdocs lack important information about faculty hiring and the tenure process. Did you get a job offer? Great! Success!…. now what? “Preparing for the First Year as Faculty” can help you land on your feet when you get to your new job, and glimpse a candid view of what the next stage of your career could be like. The panel brings together three UCB alumni, who are STEM professors at different institutions (liberal arts, R1 med school, and UCB). They will share insights into how to build a solid foundation for success, and what rewards and challenges you might encounter while in the first year(s) of a tenure-track job. You do not need to have an offer, or be on the job market, to benefit from this panel – all trainees interested in faculty careers are encouraged to hear speaker advice!

Panelists are:

  • Michele N. Insanally, PhD, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Otolaryngology and Dept of Neuroscience, University of Pittsburgh (UCB Neuroscience grad alum)
  • K. Aurelia Ball, PhD Assistant Professor of Chemistry, Skidmore College (UCB Biophysics grad alum)
  • Z. Jack Tseng, PhD, Assistant Professor, Department of Integrative Biology, UC Berkeley (UCB IB undergrad alum)
