Bio: Bilge Ozaydin, PhD, is the Director of the Strain Discovery and Development group at Pivot Bio, a Berkeley-based AgTech startup advancing soil microbes to replace synthetic fertilizers. Bilge earned her Ph.D. from the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology at UC Berkeley and did her postdoctoral research at Joint BioEnergy Institute of LBNL. Her expertise lies in engineering metabolic and regulatory pathways of microorganisms to produce industrial biochemicals and desired phenotypic outcomes. At Pivot, Bilge’s team is isolating, characterizing, and engineering the cereal-colonizing diazotrophic bacteria to awaken and upregulate their nitrogen fixation pathways as well as developing field-predictive assays to characterize the strains that deliver the most ammonia under diverse field conditions.
