Amy Herr, a QB3-Berkeley faculty affiliate and professor of bioengineering, has been awarded a 2026 Weill Neurohub Investigator Award.

The award supports her research project, “The Protein Code of Brain Aging: From Molecules to Mechanisms.” The Weill Neurohub Investigator program is designed to fund high-impact, interdisciplinary research that leverages expertise across UC Berkeley, UCSF, and the University of Washington to tackle some of the most challenging problems in neuroscience.
Professor Herr’s work focuses on the mathematization of biology and medicine. Her lab is renowned for inventing microfluidic and nanofluidic tools that allow for the precision analysis of protein isoforms within single cells—measurements that were previously impossible to achieve at scale. For this new project, Herr and her team will apply these advanced bioanalytical technologies to decode the complex protein modifications that drive brain aging, with the ultimate goal of uncovering new mechanisms and therapeutic targets for neurodegenerative diseases.
In addition to her research, Professor Herr serves as the Chief Technology Officer for the Chan Zuckerberg Biohub Network and was the founding director of the Bakar BioEnginuity Hub.
